Little Horse Trail

Chicken Point is a favorite hiking destination around Sedona, and there are two terrific trails to get there. The Broken Arrow Trail is longer with more vertical and more grand vistas, but it shares some of the space with tour jeeps. So for a quicker and still very scenic hike up to Chicken Point, keep reading!

Little Horse Trail starts at a trailhead and overlook just south of the main town of Sedona and north of the Village of Oak Creek. The trailhead is also one end of the Bell Rock bike trail and can be busy during peak hours. The trail starts out heading south parallel to the highway for about a quarter mile, then branches off to the east toward the line of bluffs. After winding down to cross a dry wash, the trail starts a steady climb toward the easily-visible Two Nuns formation, which is right near Chicken Point. There are some nice views along the trail, including a few glimpses of the Chapel of the Holy Cross to the north. There is frequently mountain bike traffic on this narrow trail, so it is important for hikers and bikers to stay alert. Chicken Point itself is not visible from most of the trail, as it is hidden between two taller rock formations, but it comes into view in the last half mile. The views can be great from the top of this huge stack of pancakes, and there are lots  of opportunities for fun photos using the large rock on the point as a prop.

You can either backtrack to the beginning or use a car shuttle to connect the Little Horse Trail with the Broken Arrow Trail for a great one-way route.
