    From the parking area inside Galena Cree Regional Park, you can head to the Manzanita Picnic Area to gear up, and then skirt around the outside of the NDOT fence to meet the trail.

    Another entrance to the snowshoe trail is to walk through the NDOT driveway and access the road through an unassuming entrance on the lots south side.

    The trail follows the old highway, so it stays wide and easy to navigate throughout its course.

    After making a right turn, the trail begins to climb to views across the valley.

    The trail gains about 800 feet in elevation over the course of just over two miles.

    The trail ending is anticlimactic, coming to an abrupt halt on the shouler of Mt Rose Highway.

    The old highway is now a forest road, however it's unmaintained and makes a good snowshoe trail nearby to Reno when the snow level is low enough.
