The Elephant Sanctuary operates out of a central cluster of buildings which house sanctuary employees and long-term volunteers, as well as providing kitchen, meeting and lounging space for visitors.
Elephants are housed each night at two pens, during which time the sanctuary is able to tend to their health needs. They are free to roam the surrounding jungle during the days.
The sanctuary offers the chance to observe elephants, while the guides discuss their habits and personalities, relating educational and often funny stories about the elephants at the sanctuary.
Watching the elephants for a length of time reveals a glimpse into their personality, not to mention the dexterity of their physical abilities. Here we follow as one climbs a hillside in the jungle.
Visitors are provided with a lunch, which guides offer the option of eating in the jungle. Here, visitors stop to eat lunch while watching the elephants forage around the hillside for theirs.
