Black Butte (6,436') dominates the view to the north. On a clear day, Mount Jefferson (10,495'), Mount Washington (7,795') and the Three Sisters 10,358') are also visible from Peterson Ridge.
The upper portion of West Peterson Ridge Trail offers the best views.
The ubiquitous sage and lava rock on Peterson Ridge make for interesting scenery.
Most of the Peterson Ridge Trails are in open pine forest.
