Looking out between the Naked and Little Naked Boulders at Balboa Park, right in between the Devil's Door. Great routes are located along the left rock face, the south-facing wall of the Naked Boulder.

A local climber we met (the owner of the bouldering gym in San Salvador, in fact), cruising up a 5.10b, La Primera Vez.

From the top of the Naked Boulder, from near to far: Little Naked Boulder, the parking lot, followed by the Big Naked Boulder and its viewing platform.

Blue skies but with a bit of blissful cloud cover. The weather in El Salvador can be extremely hot and humid, which makes climbing a little less than ideal at times. You won't find send temps down here.

Standing atop El Chulo Hill. El Chulo translates to "place of the deserter" or "place of the fugitive."

Looking back at the road from the pathway leading to one of the larger climbing areas, La Primera Vez. Great selection of moderates here!

The Naked Boulder, the most famous feature of Puerta del Diablo, formed during a series of torrential rain years ago when the mountain collapsed, and the two main rock features fell together to form this horizontal crack.

To the northwest, you can see the sprawling urban center of San Salvador, a city with one of the highest homicide rates in the world. Despite that, we found everyone remarkably kind and willing to go out of their way to ensure our safety and comfort.

From the top, enjoy the sweeping panorama to the east of Lago de Ilopango and the appropriately named Ilopango volcano (left). From here, you would never know you are but a few minutes away from a city of almost 300,000 people.
