Looking down as you approach the mountain hut, Koča Pod Bogatinom (1,513 m), with stellar views of the Lower Bohinj Mountains, Podrta Mountains, and Lanževica massif.
Koča Pod Bogatinom is smaller and more quaint than the nearby Dom na Komni, housing only about 50 people max. Unlike the larger hut, it is only open from June 15 to September 30, as well as during the New Year and May skiing holidays.
Dom na Komni (1,520 m) started as a cable car station to transport supplies during World War I. The hut itself was built by Slovenian Mountaineering Association in 1936. It later burned down during World War II and was rebuilt in 1948.
Look for the red and white circle targets that mark the trail. Here, they mark the beginning of the via ferrata section on the descent from Črno Jezero.
Via ferrata translates to "way of iron." Such trails were implemented all over Europe during World War I for secret mountain travel and supply movement. Today, they just make for really interesting trails!
The source waters of Savica Slap, the main attraction along the western shores of Lake Bohinj. This place bears new meaning when considering that "savica" means "the source of life."
