Views of the several buildings that make up the Skógar Museum from the platform at Skógafoss. The museum contains three museum sections: a folk section, an open-air section, and a technical section.
The museum has several historic buildings, including an estate home constructed of driftwood and the planks of a shipwreck and a church made up of historical pieces dating around the year 1600. Museum visitors are welcome to enter both.
The mid-nineteenth century fishing boat, Pétursey, once sailed with a crew of 17 off the south coast of Iceland before anchoring the Skógar Museum's maritime history section.
A thorough collection of Icelandic mammal, reptile, aviary, arachnid, and insect specimens are on display in standing and shelved glass cases in the museum.
