After working trail crew for nearly 10 years, Agnes Vianzon set out to start her own nonprofit, the ESCC, with a special focus on recruiting women and women of color.
The trail crews work mostly on high elevation projects out of Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks and the Mammoth Lakes area.
Women are taught the leadership and engineering skills needed to build trails during the day, and at night, there's a campfire discussion focus on soft skills like emotional intelligence and conflict resolution.
The ESCC also plans transformational backcountry trips for women of color, aptly named "Women in the Wilderness."
