    Upon heading down the steps and into the river, head left and pass beneath the traffic bridge, following the river upstream.

    Beyond the tunnel the river opens into a wide series of warming pools.

    A small wall can be passed through in the center, or on either side, leading to the wider area of the Rio Chollín.

    For the next half mile the water temperatures fluctuate and the quality of the small pools changes. Head further upriver to get away from the crowds that tend to stick to the lower sections.

    About a quarter mile up the river, pools cobbled together from small boulders and sandbags are deep enough to submerge your entire body.

    While the steam from Tabacon's resort is sometimes visible rising above the trees and foliage upstream, the free hot springs can still make for their own ideal destination.

    The Rio Chollín free hot springs can definitely be a memorable way to spend an afternoon or evening.
