Red Rock Canyon, Roundup Trail, and Contemplative Trail Loop is a moderately challenging hike located in Red Rock Canyon Open Space near Colorado Springs. This hike explores part of the northern half of the open space. This loop is 3.5 miles long and gains 488 feet of elevation.
This hike starts from Red Rock Canyon Parking Lot 2. There are portable toilets available at the trailhead. Begin hiking southwest on Red Rock Canyon Trail. You will be walking uphill. After 0.2 miles of hiking, you will pass by a small pond. As you continue on Red Rock Canyon Trail, you will be walking in a canyon with large red rock walls. You will pass by many junctions, and you will stay on Red Rock Canyon Trail. After 0.9 miles, you will turn right onto Roundup Trail. Continue hiking uphill on Roundup Trail. The trail will begin to switchback up a slope near red rock formations. After 0.7 miles, you will reach the high point of the loop. The trail flattens briefly here as you pass by two junctions. Stay on Roundup Trail at both junctions.
After 0.1 miles, the trail starts to head downhill. Follow Roundup trail for another 0.5 miles to reach a junction. Here, you will continue straight onto Contemplative Trail. You will still be heading downhill. After 0.4 miles, you will come to another junction and go right. You will go straight through another junction after 0.2 miles. Another 0.1 miles will bring you to a parking lot. Follow the trail past 2 parking lots back to Red Rock Canyon Parking Lot 2.
Red Rock Canyon Open Space is open for hiking year round. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are allowed on this trail, but they must be on a leash at all times.
