The Chutes, Laveta, Chamberlain Trail Loop is a moderately challenging hike located in Stratton Open Space near Colorado Springs. This hike explores the western half of the open space. This loop is 4.4 miles long and gains 725 feet of elevation,

This hike starts from the Stratton Open Space Trailhead. There are no amenities at the trailhead. Begin hiking west on Chamberlain Trail. After 0.1 miles, you will come to a junction and turn right to stay on Chamberlain Trail. You will be hiking uphill as the trail switches back across a slope. After 0.3 miles, you will be at the top of the switchbacks. The trail gets a little less steep here as you travel north along the trail. You will pass above Gold Camp Reservoir. After 0.4 mile, you will come to another junction and go left onto Gold Camp Path. The trail gets steeper here. You will be hiking up switchbacks.

Another mile of hiking will bring you to a junction. Continue straight onto Ladders Trail. You will now be hiking downhill. After 0.3 miles, you will encounter another junction and turn left to stay on Ladders Trail. You will be hiking downhill on switchbacks. You will come to another junction after 0.3 miles. Turn right onto Chamberlain Trail. Hike downhill for another 0.2 miles to reach a junction. Turn right to stay on Chamberlain Trail. Go right at the next junction in 0.2 miles. Continue hiking downhill. You will encounter 2 junctions over the next 0.4 miles. Go right at both. You will now be walking near the shore of Gold Camp Reservoir. After 0.3 miles you will reach another junction and go left. Follow Chamberlain Trail back to the trailhead.

Stratton Open Space is open for hiking year round from 5am-9pm. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are allowed on this trail. You may also encounter mountain bikes on this trail.
