The Tasman Lake Track is a short hike located in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. This trail travels to three different viewpoints of Tasman Lake and Tasman Glacier. This out and back hike is 2.8 miles long and gains 423 feet of elevation.
This hike starts from Tasman Glacier Car Park. There are bathrooms available at the trailhead. Begin hiking northeast. You will be trekking uphill. After 0.1 miles, you will come to a junction. Head left here towards Tasman Glacier View. Continue uphill for 0.1 miles before coming to another junction and staying right. Shortly after this, you will have a view of one of the Blue Lakes. There is also an informational sign here. Continue trekking uphill for another 0.2 miles to reach Tasman Glacier View. Enjoy breathtaking views of Tasman Lake and Tasman Glacier. Turn around and head back to the first junction.
Once you have reached the junction, turn left to head towards Tasman Lake Jetty and Tasman River. At this point, you will have hiked about 0.7 miles. After another 0.2 miles, you will come to a junction and go left towards Tasman Lake Jetty. 0.2 miles of hiking will bring you to some docks on the shores of Tasman Lake. Turn around and head back to the last junction.
At the junction, turn left towards the Tasman River. After 0.3 miles of hiking, you will reach the shore of Tasman Lake and see it emptying into the Tasman River. Turn around and head back to the last junction. Go left here. At the next junction, go left again and return to the trailhead.
Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park is open for hiking year round. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are not allowed on this trail. The Tasman Lake Track is a wonderful way to explore Tasman Lake and Tasman Glacier.
