On Saturday, August 4, Outdoor Project hosted our second annual Salt Lake City Block Party Festival with Uinta Brewing Co. With 1,400 people coming through the event, it was great to see the Salt Lake City community enjoying great beer, delicious food, and live music, while exploring the best gear, local brands, and helping to support a local nonprofit.
National, regional, and local vendors were on site to help gear people up and make their outdoor adventure dreams come true. At the KEEN tent, attendees could spin the wheel of chance to take home a prize right there and enter to win a pair of shoes. Yakima was cooking up some smoked meat that made our mouths water all day long. The Hex Press would screenprint your favorite design on your favorite style of shirt, dress, or tea towel right there!
Over $3,000 in prizes were donated to the on-site and online giveaways, including some ski passes and some jewelry made from skis. A big thank you to the following vendor partners for bringing swag, games, challenges, contributing to the giveaways, and, of course, for showing off their great gear for everyone’s next adventure:
KEEN, Zeal Optics, 1% for the Planet, Yakima Racks, Après Ski Jewelry, Powder Mountain Resort, Gregory Packs, Snowbasin Resort, Wildish, Hand Out Gloves, The Hex Press, and Diversity iN Adventure.
Live music from Lounge on Fire and Taarka kept the mood upbeat all day long, while food trucks Shirokuma Snow Cream and Cupbop Korean Barbecue served cold treats and yummy eats.
Proceeds from our Stanley pint cup sales, as well as a percentage of beer sales from Uinta Brewing, the food trucks, and a few of our vendors, are going to this year's nonprofit partner, Save Our Canyons, and our national nonprofit partner, 1% for the Planet. Save Our Canyons is a Salt Lake City-local nonprofit dedicated to protecting the wildness and beauty of the Wasatch Mountains, canyons, and foothills.
Thank you for celebrating summer with us in Salt Lake City! We look forward to seeing you all at another Outdoor Project Summer Block Party Festival. We have events in Minneapolis, Brooklyn, and Charleston coming up, so start planning those adventures now!
In times like these, when our air, water, climate, and public lands are under constant attack, we’re continuing our mission of taking action with renewed gusto—with a new campaign to activate KEEN employees and our fans.
Because … Better Takes Action.
“From the inception of this campaign, we set out with a simple goal: to inspire a call to action for our fans, our community, and our employees to engage their civic voice to protect open spaces and drive positive outcomes,” says Tyler LaMotte, Chief Marketing Officer at KEEN. “As a brand dedicated to making leading products for our fans to experience life outside, the aim is that together we can take action today for a better tomorrow.”
Whether it’s helping create a better world for future generations or enjoying better adventures today with our families, the only way to make anything better is to do something about it.
