Bald River Falls is a gorgeous 90-foot waterfall located roadside in the Unicoi Mountains of East Tennessee. Found in the heart of the Cherokee National Forest, Tellico Plains is a favorite among fishermen, kayakers, hikers and those seeking solitude from the crowds. The Tellico River winds through a tranquil mountain gorge and offers many opportunities for cooling off in the water, exploring or fishing. The Tellico River is recognized nationally as a top trout stream with 68 degree water temperature and clear water. Bald River flows from the Cherohala Skyway, over Bald River Falls and meets with the Tellico River. Take the trail to the left of the parking area for Bald River Falls to explore above the falls and Bald River.

As you explore the area and view Bald River Falls, try to imagine the area during the logging days — including a railroad track that ran above the waterfall. Once you finish up at the main attraction, continue down the road to explore Baby Falls, locate restrooms and have a relaxing picnic along the river. Baby Falls is a 14-foot waterfall located on the Tellico River and, when the water is high, is a popular Class IV kayaking spot. You'll find many Class III and Class IV kayaking runs in the Tellico Plains area as well. If you're looking to expand your exploration of Bald River Falls and the Tellico area, make sure your gas tank is full and continue past Baby Falls to the north end of River Road. Along North River Road, you'll find plenty of swimming holes, free camping along the river and fishing spots. The road will take you to the Cherohala Skyway; you can either stay and explore the skyway or loop back around to Tellico. Bald River Falls is an easy and beautiful spot to visit in this lush forest.
