The Viti crater is located near Lake Myvatn in northern Iceland. It’s a circular crater full of beautiful blue water near colorful mountains. This crater is roughly 300 meters in diameter, and it began forming sometime in 1724. These explosions lasted for about 5 years – and Viti’s mud continued to boil for a century after that. This trail is beautiful and relatively easy, beginners will be fine here. The rim tour trail can be completed in one hour, but if time is tight, take a right at the top of the parking lot, as this part of the trail is flat and easier for walking. Touring the entire rim is recommended as views from the left side (as seen from parking lot) offer beautiful views of colorful surrounding mountains, while views from the right offer the deep blue lake and steaming landscape.
