As one of California’s earliest constructed aids to navigation, Battery Point Lighthouse has served as a beacon to mariners since 1856. Located in the far northwestern corner of the state, this was the original navigation aid for Crescent City and Crescent Harbor. Battery Point and the lighthouse are unique because Battery Point is isolated as an island from the mainland at higher tides. The lighthouse can be visited only on foot during low tide, when the rocky shoreline connecting the end of the point is exposed above sea level.

Battery Point Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and as a California Historic Landmark. Walk-though tours are available weekend days from October through March, 10 A.M. to 4 P.M., tide permitting. Tours lead visitors through the historic lighthouse keeper’s quarters and up into the lighthouse tower and lantern room. You do not need to be on a tour, however, to visit the exterior grounds.
