Broken Bowl Campground is the nicest of the three Forest Service campgrounds on Fall Creek’s lower stretch. Size, layout, and amenities make this campground a central and primary choice for camping in the area; nearby Dolly Varden Campground and Big Pool Campground are really more like Broken Bowl’s overflow satellite campgrounds. Broken Bowl is where campers from other campgrounds come for potable water and to buy firewood, and it features plumbed bathrooms that are ADA accessible. Broken Bowl is also where the campground host for all three campgrounds is stationed, which can result in a more orderly overnight environment on busy weekends. It is probably for this reason that this campground actually receives lighter traffic than its more spartan neighbors.
Perhaps most importantly, Broken Bowl is properly situated and large enough to provide several choice sites along Fall Creek. You’ll have several opportunities to grab a site that affords views of the creek from the picnic table, and even better options if you don’t mind taking a short walk from your vehicle to the walk-in sites. Further, most of Broken Bowl’s sites are spacious and enjoy the insulating effects of vine maples and Douglas firs.
Like Dolly Varden Campground and Big Pool Campground, Broken Bowl is open from the end of April to the end of September and its sites are all first-come, first-served.
