The South Pond Trail is a mile-long loop spur from the Spicer Ranch Trail that climbs Southpond Mountain to views overlooking the Oasis Valley. Built as a mountain biking trail that is open for hikers, the South Pond Trail climbs about 150 feet and is rated at medium difficulty. In the right conditions, the arid landscape can be covered in wildflowers.

What's remarkable about the South Pond Trail is that it was built on the property of a working ranch by a ranch owner who is also a mountain biker and who wanted to bring the sport to the rural outpost of Beatty and the Oasis Valley. The trail network was a labor of love that now hosts competitive cycling events along with civic events, and it is a great destination for travelers making the drive on Nevada's long Highway 95 to get out and hike or ride into the western Nevada desert. See the Spicer Ranch Trail page for information regarding parking and trail access. For more information regarding the trail system and to see information on upcoming events, visit Trails-OV.org
