The Söguhringur Trail, also called the Follow The Old Footsteps Trail, is one of several trails orignating at the Hotel Husafell. The easy trail is 3 kilometers in length with only slight elevation gain, and it is good for those looking to just get out and stretch their legs or those who may like to visit the studio space of local artist Páll Guðmundsson.

Beginning at the hotel's lower entrance (free trail maps are available at the hotel reception desk), the trail passes through the hotel property, briefly passing by the small hydroelectric generator, historically used as a mill site, that now provides power to the hotel. Once across the street, the path loops up into the grassy hillside below the mouth of Bæjargil Canyon. Those looking for a more challenging hike can continue heading along the trail, signed in yellow, that heads up the canyon.

The path passes several historic sites and features that show Páll's artistic presentation of the area's mythical past. Green trail markers sign the route back to the hotel, but hikers can detour here through the studio workspaces of Páll Guðmundsson. Páll Guðmundsson's art is featured prominently throughout the Hotel Husafell, having worked carefully in concert with local materials that he incorporates into his art. Even his prints are painted with handmade pigments of crushed volcanic stone and ash. The studio space and installations on his property are a definite area highlight, and the church on the property remains unlocked and welcoming to visitors, with the artist's altarpieces and carvings on display—though it is used for occasional services.

From here, the path returns to the trail and heads back to the hotel.

The Söguhringur Trail is short and accessible by most ability levels. There are no amenities or water located along the trail. All amenities are available at the Hotel Husafell.
