Helton Creek Falls are a beautiful set of easy-to-access waterfalls in the heart of Georgia's mountains. They are a few short miles away from Blood Mountain and an Appalachian Trail road crossing.
Getting to the falls involves an easy drive through a rural neighborhood and then continuing on a well-maintained forest road until arriving at the trail. Parking is limited, and on busy days you may have to find a spot on the side of the road and walk to the trailhead. However, the trail to the falls is extremely short and a very easy hike -- less than a quarter-mile to the upper falls viewing platform.
The lower part of the falls is a beautifully smooth slide down a slick rock face into a large, still pool. A stairway leads down to the water for a view.
The upper falls are a tall, tumbling cascade into a wide open break in the trees. Rocks and logs dam up a pool of water at the base of the falls, and Helton Creek weaves through them to continue flowing downstream.
Helton Creek Falls are great anytime of the year: You'll enjoy cold, frozen ice in the winter, rushing waters in spring and summer, and beautiful bright colors in the fall.
