Cedar Glen Backcountry Camp is an unimproved camp located about 2.75 miles and about 1,200 feet in elevation gain from the Icehouse Trailhead along the Chapman Trail. The camp has one larger lower flat area lying along the trail that is suitable for a group, along with a slightly smaller flat area more intimately surrounded by trees up a small well-worn slope from the trail.
This elevated area offers a view of Ontario Peak and the lower San Gabriel Mountains as they cascade west toward the Inland Empire.
Use is available by free permit from the Mount Baldy Visitor Center (909.982.2829). The only fires permitted at the camp are campstoves with prearranged permit as well.
One nice aspect of the camp is the sound of the wind gently howling through the cedar trees here. As a backcountry camp, Cedar Glen Camp contains no amenities, but it may make a good base from which to hike to several of the surrounding peaks.
