South Beach Campground lies on the very southern end of Olympic National Park's 73 miles of pristine Pacific coastline and right beside a small picnic site perched high above the beach called Ashenbrenner Day Use Area. Fifty-five campsites line the Pacific Ocean's shore, a beach with the rather uninspiring title of "Beach 1." All of the campsites are built for tent campers only, and half enjoy open and direct views of the ocean. With such exposure, however, be sure you are prepared to weather the elements and meet your neighbors, as privacy between campsites is virtually non-existent.

To access Ashenbrenner Day Use Area from the campground, walk back uphill to Highway 101 and a short distance south where you'll see a small, shin-high wooden fence marking the day use area's entrance.

Note: South Beach Campground is open May 21 through September 7. Access to potable water, firewood, and a general store are located 2.8 miles further north at Kalaloch Lodge.
