The Clair Tappaan Lodge is a hostel-style lodge built by Sierra Club volunteers in 1934. This rustic lodge is located in the historic Donner Pass area of California. Quick access to year-round outdoor activities can be found just minutes from the front door.
There are 23 bunks that are available in the female dorm and 10 in the male dorm. The Clair Tappaan also offers private and group rooms if you prefer a little privacy. A big hearty breakfast, lunch, or dinner can be purchased at a reasonable rate as well. Meal time is a community event where you can sit down and mingle with the other patrons while enjoying home-style cooked food. Plates from the menu are brought to your table, and you can help yourself like you are at home.
Community areas include a central room, reading lounge, game room, community lounge, and the hot tub. Cross country skiing/snowshoeing trails are located directly out the front door as well as three ski resorts within minutes of the lodge. The Clair Tappaan is a short walk from the parking lot that is located across Donner Pass Road.
If you like the area but hostel lodging is not quite your thing, the Benson Hut, Bradley Hut, Ludlow Hut and Peter Grubb Hut are also managed by the Sierra Club and can be reserved at the Clair Tappaan.
