Aside from the beautiful people, the sunrises and sunsets from Ipanema are truly amazing. Whether you’re watching the colors in the sky or looking to relax, there is something here for all ages. Sporting activities are a constant on Ipanema Beach, including volleyball, football, footvolley, and a range of other games. There is no limit when it comes to drinking options either: beer, fresh-cut coconuts, acai juice and the traditional local beverage cachaça are sold all along the beachfront by servers or at small beverage stands. Also, the beachfront areas are divided into areas by postos (lifeguard towers), with each posto having a different vibe. Locals will often direct you to the “best” areas of the beach by telling you which postos you should visit.

Dois Irmãos (Two Brothers) mountain to the west gives the beach a very unique feel. Each night as the sun sets over these two mountains, dramatic shadows are cast down over the beach. Being a city known for its party life, the beach is often still full at dusk and sometimes well after. As late as midnight you’ll likely to see beachgoers well into their 80s enjoying drinks near the ocean.
