The Boulder Recreation Area is located on Canyon Lake close to the Canyon Lake Marina. It is a quiet but popular little cove. Mostly favored for day-use picnicking, kayaking, and paddleboarding, it is also a great place to take your dogs for a dip in the lake!
There are several large shelters for shade, and it is an excellent spot to stop for lunch. Canyon Lake is also well known for its fishing. Carp over 30 pounds can be found in this lake, and it held a state record for a 15-pound largemouth and a world record for a 1-pound, 11-ounce yellow bass. The lake is stocked monthly with rainbow trout from November to March. Other species that can be found in this lake are walleye, channel catfish, bluegill, and green sunfish.
With its proximity to Canyon Lake Marina and restrictions on boat use (motorized boats are not allowed in the Boulder Recreation Area), this is an excellent area to step away from the noise, fish off the dock, or enjoy a nice shaded picnic and paddle with friends. The Canyon Lake Marina features a restaurant, snackbar, picnic supplies, camping, kayak and paddleboard rentals, and more.
