Drumheller + Royal Tyrell Museum

While in Alberta, visitors are advised to visit Drumheller and the Royal Tyrrell Museum located in the Midland Provincial Park. An interpretive trail is located adjacent to the museum. The Royal Tyrrell Museum offers programs of many varieties, and even a camp-in with the dinosaurs! Guests can spend the night in the museum for a truly unique opportunity. Be sure to visit their website to read the camp-in overview. The interpretive trail itself is approximately 1 mile and wanders through striated landforms. The park is very well kept and hosts a paved parking lot adjacent to the museum. A lookout offers a brief view over the valley and museum and provides a great picture opportunity.  

While the park is geologically significant, it was established to preserve the coal mining history of Alberta. Along with the museum and interpretive trail, a Coal Mine Day Use Area and Coal Interpretive Trail is located at Midland Provincial Park. Alberta Parks offers great resources and brochures for their parks including a basic park attendance brochure providing their regulations.
