Zabriskie Point

Zabriskie Point is a popular viewpoint in Death Valley National Park overlooking the badlands of Badwater Basin. There are two ways to get to this point: you can either drive right to it, or you can hike the Golden Canyon Trail. This view is one of the most photographed in Death Valley National Park. Many photographers go to the point early to watch the morning sun reflect off of the canyon walls. It truly is an amazing sight to see these mountains vibrantly glowing gold. 

What you are seeing here is the remaining sediments from a long forgotten lake combined with ashfalls from local volcanic activity. These factors contribute to the color and geological variations. 

Whether you are hiking to the top or driving, both points are a short distance from Furnace Creek so it is quite feasible to get here early in the morning for the sunrise. The trail from the parking lot is very short, just an easy eighth-mile that is paved and wheelchair accessible. A couple of viewing benches are located near the top if you wish to relax and enjoy the view as well.
