Inspiration Point is one of Lake Tahoe’s famed vista points for good reason; it’s view over Emerald Bay is nothing short of spectacular. A popular stop on the Tahoe tourist lap, you’re unlikely to find solitude here on a summer or weekend day. Visit during midweek in fall or winter, however, and you very well may have this stunning vista to yourself.

Located at the southwestern corner of the lake, Inspiration Point looks out over the tranquil and aptly named waters of Emerald Bay State Park. A nice viewing deck and walkway augmented with interpretive signage gives visitors fantastic views of the mountainous terrain surrounding the bay, as well the notable landmarks of Emerald Point and Fannette Island (and the remnants of its summit-perched tea house), and beyond to Lake Tahoe proper.

Inspiration Point is located across Highway 89 from the Bayview Trailhead Campground, the access point for both the Bayview and Granite Lake Trails. Restrooms are provided. During inclement weather, check with authorities to ensure that Highway 89 is open.
