Salmon Creek Falls Campground

Salmon Creek Falls Campground lies just outside of Oakridge and 4 miles up Salmon Creek. The campground sits beneath a dense canopy of old-growth Douglas fir and hemlock, and ferns, thimbleberry, and maple fill out the lush understory. This beautiful campground has a standard arrangement for a Forest Service campground: the 14 first-come, first-served campsites each have a fire pit and a picnic table, and vault toilets and potable water are centrally located. There are no hookups or dump stations, and sites are large enough to accommodate 20-foot trailers. Generally the sites are well spaced and enjoy the benefits that robust foliage provide in terms of privacy and noise dampening. The forest road that serves the campground receives very light traffic, so the creek itself is the sound that will lull you to sleep at night.

The abundance of mountain bike rides in this area means that you are likely to see riders on the road and in the campground in the summer months. Likewise, the Salmon Creek Trail leaves from this campground, so hikers do move through occasionally. But the main attraction to this place is Salmon Creek itself, which pushes through a narrow gorge and collects in gorgeous emerald pools before diving over the 10-foot Salmon Creek Falls. Campers can enjoy excellent creek access as the majority of sites face the water, and there is a day use area in the campground for those who aren’t staying over.

Salmon River Campground is generally open from April through October, conditions permitting.
