Just past Multnomah Falls, this adventure has what most hikers are looking for: waterfalls, old-growth forest, big vistas and even a little scrambling at Oneonta Gorge.  In terms of waterfalls, you are really getting a four-for-one deal on this hike, as Horsetail Falls is just the beginning. The other three remarkable falls are Ponytail Falls, Oneonta Bridge Falls (or Middle Falls) and Triple Falls.  If you head into the Oneonta Gorge, you can also add Lower Oneonta Falls to the list.  Regardless of how you count them, this hike won’t disappoint!  If you are on the trail in late spring or early summer, be sure to look for the crisp, articulated red columbine flower and the delicate pacific starflower.

Horsetail Falls is beautiful & can be easily accessed from the parking lot. Ponytail Falls is amazing! Steep switchbacks climb up to reach the unique water feature- You can walk behind the falls! Under a "cave" style in the cliff you can stand behind the waterfall. The trail continues on but we have not done it yet. Looking forward to returning soon!

The whole loop was amazing. While the falls are gorgeous, so are the views looking over the Columbia river. If you want to tack on the Oneonta Gorge, go early. It was packed by noon. Parking also fills up quickly and they are not afraid to tow anyone whose wheels are over the white line of the road. What a bummer that would be after an amazing hike.
