Groups hoping to camp together during their time on beautiful Crescent Lake have two options: Windy and Simax Group Campgrounds. Of the two, Simax offers easier access from Highway 58 and a more robust infrastructure that includes plumbed bathrooms and potable water, not to mention the more present natural infrastructure provided by ponderosa and lodgepole pines.
Simax Group Campground has four sites lettered A through D, each with a central staging area, several picnic tables, a counter for cooking and food preparation, and a large fire pit. Site D also has electricity, and the entire campground is ADA accessible. All sites are available by reservation, and the price varies by site and by weekday or weekend. A covered day use area is also available for reservation.
The Simax Day Use Areas are just south of the campground, so even if you are unable to grab the site on the water your lake access will be relatively close. Crescent Lake Resort has a wide variety of watercrafts available for rent in addition to mountain bikes for the trails near the lake. The nearest boat ramps are at Crescent Lake Resort and Crescent Lake Campground, both of which charge day use fees non-guest for boat ramp access.
Like many of the other campgrounds in the area, Simax Group Campground usually closes by the end of September and opens again by mid-May.
