Mazama Village Campground

Located just over 6 miles south of Crater Lake, the 212-site Mazama Village Campground is Crater Lake National Park’s largest campground.  Situated on a bluff roughly 200 feet above Annie Creek, the campground is tucked away in a forest of lodgepole pine, and it is composed of seven loops lettered A thru G that are primarily built for tent/car camping.  Note, however, that sites F15 thru F29 have electrical hook-ups and B10 and C5 provide full RV hook-ups (unfortunately these two sites cannot be reserved).

The campground also features cabins with 40 guestrooms, each with their own bathroom. These rooms are cozy, but more natural in character with no televisions, phones or air conditioning. One and two queen bed rooms are available.

In order to accommodate the hordes of visitors who annually flock to Oregon’s only national park, Mazama Village Campground is built up to provide services to guests of all wilderness and camping dispositions.  While the campsites themselves are relatively primitive, the ‘Village’ features a general store, a gift shop, a casual dining restaurant with outdoor seating, laundry facilities, and even a gas station.  Within the campground, each campsite features a picnic table, a fire pit/grill, a bear locker, and short walking access to plumbed restrooms and showers at all of the ‘comfort stations.’

Reservations for the campground book extremely quickly, so be sure to claim a spot early.  Bookings are even more popular because Lost Creek Campground is currently closed due to federal budget cuts.  If Mazama Village Campground is full, several campgrounds along the Upper Rogue River will be your closest alternatives, including Farewell Bend Campground (61 campsites) and Union Creek Campground (78 campsites); each is roughly 17 miles west on Highway 62.  For a more luxurious alternative consider the historic Crater Lake Lodge.

Note: Mazama Village Campground and Cabins are open mid-June through the end of September or early October, weather permitting, but it is best to call for specific opening and closure dates. More, bring quarters if you plan to wash-up: showers are $0.75 for four minutes, washers are $1.25 per load, and dryers are $0.25 for 10 minutes.
