Juniper Point

Created by a hydroelectric dam, Iron Gate Reservoir is tucked away in the beautiful Siskiyou Mountains just south of the Oregon and California border. Iron Gate Reservoir has multiple campsites along its shore, but Juniper Point is the only location that has designated a swimming area where boat wakes are prohibited. However, there are only four designated camp areas at Juniper Point, and with relatively few level areas that are suitable for a tent, those four first-come, first-served spaces are precious.

Once you get a site, camping is free for 14 days at a time, and the majestic views and starry nights are magnificent. There are no water filling stations, so you will need to bring your own. Well-maintained vault toilets are available near the entrance. Note that the water may or may not be fit for swimming due to seasonal algae blooms, so use your discretion.
