Armstrong Campground is one of several modest and convenient campgrounds situated in the heart of the Clackamas Wild and Scenic River. It takes less than half an hour to reach the campground from Estacada, which is a central launching point for recreation in the area.
The campground itself boasts just the basics. Each campsite has a campfire ring with grill and a picnic table and offers some privacy due to dense ground vegetation. The campground also has vault toilets and potable water. RV camping is possible at Armstrong, but only for smaller set-ups.
If you are interested in spending time on the river, a boat ramp is just a couple of minutes south at Fish Creek Campground. It's a good place to launch kayaks, canoes and other boats. For those who prefer keeping to land, hiking, mountain biking and birding are popular activities. Or you can plant a chair on the banks of the Clackamas River, accessible from the campground, and enjoy the babble of the river and fresh air.
Lockaby, Carter Bridge and Fish Creek Campgrounds are just minutes away and offer comparable amenities.
Note: Armstrong Campground is open April 20 through October 12.
