Because of its close proximity to the Cedar Grove Village and amenities, Sentinel Campground is in many ways the heart of the four campgrounds lined up between Highway 180 and the South Fork of the Kings River. Like neighboring Canyon View, Moraine, and Sheep Creek campgrounds, great fishing and easy river access are just steps away from the northern site, and the location is ideal for day trips or extended adventures along the trails leaving from Road's End. This campground enjoys the consistent shade from towering cedars and pines, which infuse the air with a wonderful scent in the summer and serve to distinguish sites from each other. Sentinel Campground is arranged as five adjoining loops, and a beautiful montane meadow sits at the heart of the northernmost loop. Cedar Grove amenities include a small grocery store, the Cedar Grove Lodge and restaurant, and the Cedar Grove Visitor Center that is adjacent to the campground.
The campground itself consists of 82 sites that are all first-come, first-served. While sites in some of the neighboring campgrounds have configurations that are densely laid out, Sentinel allows for a little more space between sites throughout the area. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, a fire pit, and a food storage area. Restrooms and potable water stations are conveniently distributed throughout the campground. RVs are welcome, though there are no hookups or dump stations. Generator hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. You'll find ranger programs in the campground from July through early September.
Highway 180 closes in the winter, and Sentinel Campground is generally open from the end of April to the beginning of November. Call 559.565.3341 for the most current campground information and conditions. Reservations are available at Reservations.gov.
